This was my first fondant cake to decorate. It was actually going to be the base of my 24th kiwiana themed birthday cake, but because I had just come out of round of 'K therapy', I still wasnt well enough, I wasnt well at all, so I had to change the dates last minute. The lady who has been working with me to help teach me some of the ropes actually made this cake before I had called the party off for 3 weeks. She made the apricot cake and iced it with fondant and so I took it and instead of just leaving it plain, on the Saturday I had a play around with it and came up with the below design (we were making my 24th kiwiana cake together). I had made the butterflies and flowers beforehand just playing around with ideas and so I brought them out for the cake. I really enjoyed decorating the cake, see I find so much solace and escape in cake decorating. When I am decorating I forget the pain, and other stresses and just focus on what I am doing! Its great rehab for my hands as well which also suffer with myoclonic jerking, spasms, and jerks. It can get frustrating when these set in, but when they do I just know I have to step away from it for a while, or a day. It can be frustrating when that happens, but I guess it teaches me patience! I am soo very blessed that I found someone who was willing to take me on and teach me in the home who has become a really amazing friend. She also suffers chronic health conditions, so she knows, she gets it and I am so lucky! See, I am mostly homebound, so I cant go to the night classes and commit to set days! My friend understands that and is so flexible with that as she 'really gets it'. I cant WAIT to be well one day! I cant wait for remission, but in the mean time I will do whatever I can in the mean time to live life and enjoy it as much as I can!
Here are the photos! I had no training for any of this so I was soooo pleased with my efforts!
The finished cake!! There are little blue flowers right round the outside of it!
"Just for fun", what better reason for a cake?
Close up of the top of the cake!
The side. I has little hearts and butterflies. The butterflies trailed from different starting points! I gave the bottom of the cake a blue pipped butter cream icing rim! It tasted soo good!
